Tonight I’ll be spinning the juiciest tracks I can salvage from the decade that ate itself at The Victoria
I’ll hopefully find an appropriate moment in the set to drop this bad boy…
Come on down and get yr wiggle-on!

When I first started messing around with this blog, I stumbled across a nifty wordpress site called Archived Music Press where I found this scan of an original 1989 review of De La Soul’s awesome debut ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ - from the now-discontinued UK indie mag ’Melody Maker’ - Enjoy!
Joe Smooth - ‘Promised Land’
It’s really, really rare that you find an actual music video for a track like this; house and dance acts in general from the mid-80’s were so underground they never bothered making promos for lack of budget and lack of demand
It’s almost confusing to watch actual 80’s people dancing about to music that was so ahead of it’s time that it later became the sound of the 90’s(!)
This is the single version of Arrested Development’s ‘Everyday People’.
I remember my sister getting ‘3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of…’ on cassette for her birthday, and the two of us being really disappointed by the album version… Looking back that was probably because it used a different (less colourful?) guitar-loop to this one, which is from a Bob James track called ‘Tappan Zee’
I’ve always loved DJing this track (for the crowd’s response to the “say woah” bits), even back in the days of my ol’ band SCC’s ‘Tropical Hotdog’ club-night at Island Bar
Snap! - ‘Oops Up’
Listen out for the lyric near the end of this tune;
“…Along came a spider, sat down beside her, n’said; ‘What’s in the bowl, bitch?’ “
Actual lol, every time I hear it
I have no idea who Christian Prommers is, or the extent of his drummin’ skills, but I stumbled across this vid of him leading a Jazz performance of one of my favourite old school classics; Mr Fingers ‘Can You Feel It’
Here’s the version you may be more familiar with »> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFuujExs03A
